How fast was your heart beating when you went by? I hate encounters with scary wildlife, which we also have on our road. And any animal with rabies would be very dangerous, no matter how small or normally afraid of humans. It would be especially scary with an animal I have never heard about before, especially if it looked like a coyote. I have been thinking about mace or pepper spray too, not sure what is best, but as you point out even agressive dog is frightening. I have not been bitten so far, thank goodness, but a few close calls. I don’t know how runners go out for runs out West in Mountain Lion territory.
To quote from a great television show that you are probably too young to remember, Hill Street Blues, “Let’s be careful out there”.
